Walks and wildlife...

Swans on Chichester Canal

Walkers, runners and cyclists may also enjoy the 4 mile canal towpath.   Much of the route is very peaceful, seeming far from habitation with unexpected sightings of unusual wildlife. You may see kingfishers, egrets, foxes or deer, a variety of dragonflies and fish, and some rare plants. Rest awhile on one of the benches along the towpath and perhaps enjoy a picnic.  This walk is part of the recently extended Lipchis Way, a long distance walk starting in Liphook, Hampshire, passing over downland through Chichester to West Wittering.

A return walk along the towpath makes a lovely day out and, if an 8 mile walk is too much for you, take a boat trip for part of the way.  You can get refreshments at each end of the walk from the Canal HQ & Shop at the basin or the Spinnaker Bar at the Marina.  Or take a break half way at the Blacksmiths Arms at Donnington or the Spotted Cow at Hunston.
