Canal Basin twinkles
Our work party elves have worked hard over the last few weeks to give you a fabulous lights display on the pontoon, in the trees and across the Cafe balcony. Though there was no fanfare this year, Jeanne Maddison, the wife of our late director, Malcolm, did the Canal the honour of flicking the switch last Saturday. We know that Malcom, who used to lead the work party, would have been delighted.
We are disappointed not to be able to run the Father Chichester boat trips this year, but Santa has still landed on the Basin, as he does every year, along with his reindeer and a plump penguin. We are thrilled to be able to put on a Christmas display to brighten up these darker days – illuminations from 4p.m. to 11p.m. every day. The work party has been moved by the number of people who thanked them for putting up the lights this year. It shows just how important the Canal is to so many of its visitors.
November saw incredible support for the Cafe’s takeaway service, for which we are very grateful. It was heart-warming to see the Basin become a bustle of positivity and friendship. The Cafe will be open from 10a.m. to 3p.m. through December. From 2 December we are able to provide limited indoor seating in the Heritage Centre alongside the takeaway service.
Enjoy!
