Green waste site clear up
No, the Canal Trust is not building an artificial ski slope! Thanks to the generosity of Dudmans, the area used by the Trust to dump its green waste has been cleared so that Cain Bio, who have twice undertaken canal repairs on the Chichester Canal, can renew the bank.
Twelve, possibly more, years ago, volunteers, using scaffolding poles and material from redundant commercial greenhouses, erected an excellent mooring position for emptying the dumb barges. But time and constant banging by the barges have taken their toll and, without immediate repair, the structure is likely to collapse. The work should be completed by the end of November.
Update….Cain Bio have now started work to provide a new wall to which the dumb barges can be secured. Not the best consitions for this type of work! but we are still hopeful of completion around the end of November.
