Easing the lockdown

We are pleased to let you know that you may now fish along the towpath southwards from the A27 road bridge towards Donnington. Fishing from the A27 to the Basin is not permitted during the closed season (1 April to 30 September). Please be aware that the Chichester Canal towpath is narrow, particularly at this current time with increased vegetation.

The towpath is well used by walkers (some with dogs ) and cyclists. It is extremely difficult to ensure social distance when passing and many walkers climb into the hedge to allow others safer passage; this is not ideal. So we are requesting that you are careful when selecting your bank position…. not only for fishing but for passing traffic.  NB We have refurbished some of our fishing platforms and we would encourage you to use these if possible.

All equipment including chairs, poles and umbrellas MUST be off the towpath.

Please have your licence with you. If it has expired since the start of lockdown, we will honour a free extension of 3 months.

Thank you for your patience and understanding.
