Ensuring safety of canal users
Due to erosion of the canal bank from Hunston to the Selsey tramway crossing, certain sections have become unstable and holes have appeared in some places. As both of these pose a significant Health & Safety risk to canal users, immediate and urgent action is required to stabilise the bank.
To ensure the safety of canal users while the work is being carried out, the towpath will be closed from 14th January for 2 weeks. The works on site will be carried out between the hours of 8.30am and 4pm (approximately). It may be possible, but not guaranteed, that access is available outside of these hours providing there are no barriers erected to prevent this.
The closure notice is issued by West Sussex County Council as the towpath is a Public Right of Way (PROW). Should you require any further information, please contact the PROW team on 01243 777620. Please quote footpath no 196_1.
Chichester Ship Canal Trust apologises in advance for any inconvenience caused.
