Consultation on the different options for the improvements to the A27 bypass around Chichester is in full swing. Please be aware that the Canal Trust has yet to agree its formal response as not all trustees have had an opportunity to attend a presentation, However, informal discussion indicates that, contrary to a letter in the Chichester Observer dated 25 August, the trustees are understood to be opposed to Option 2 for the very reasons identified in letters to the Observer. A new bridge over the canal would be a disaster for numerous reasons, including the adverse effect upon the tranquility of the canal and the view of the cathedral from Hunston as depicted in Turner’s famous painting.
