Explore the Canal through a range of media …
The refurbished Heritage Centre was officially opened in September 2019. It is a total redesign of the space in the C19th Old Stable Block which was built at the same time as the Canal. Here, visitors can discover the history of Chichester Canal from its working origins, as part of the Portsmouth and Arundel Canal, to its resurgence as the recreational amenity we know today.
The information is presented through a combination of
- Permanent display boards which give a concise history
- Touch screens offer more detail and associated topics
- Changing temporary displays on varied themes
The versatile space also provides an educational centre for school, student and adult groups and guided tours and talks can be arranged. Information in digital form allows ongoing additions and updating and the database can be used for casual reading or academic study.
The Heritage Centre is free to visit and is open daily from 9:30 am to 4:30 pm.
Limited free car parking is available for visitors.
