Santa. live music, illuminated boats and fireworks…
The wind may have been gusting but the weather stayed dry for a fabulous “switch on” event at the Canal basin. Father Christmas arrived with his happy band of passengers, accompanied by a flotilla of model boats…. all beautifully lit and dancing on the water… followed by lighting up and fireworks from the Christmas centrepiece on the pontoon. Throughout the late afternoon, the crowds were entertained by an excellent folk duo ” Chipping Away” and an ensemble from Chichester City Band; mulled wine and hot chestnuts were freely available to warm everyone up. A big thank you to Chichester and Portsmouth Model Boat Clubs, to our musicians and the volunteers who made this so special.
Streetlife post from Marilyn O:
Tonight’s christmas lights event at the Canal was a treat beyond belief. We were treated to live folk music from a very talented folk duo and then Christmas carols from some of the Chichester City Brass Band members. Against all odds (the incredible gusting winds, that is) the model boats, lit to christmas perfection, made their way round the canal basin, while the amazing volunteers handed out cups of hot, decidedly good, mulled wine and freshly roasted chestnuts. Christmas cheer taken to its literal and traditional meaning. It was almost Dickensian. For those of you who missed this one, I suggest you put it in your diaries now for next year. Many thanks and congratulations to all who organised this wonderful event, remember they are all volunteers! Merry Christmas and a happy new year to you all.
