Happy retirement!
Egremont returned to the basin…. probably for the very last time on a scheduled trip at 3pm on Christmas Eve, almost unnoticed – but not quite.
Andrew Gibson and Malcolm Maddison brought her home to three hearty cheers from another full load of passengers on board. 23 years service with the Canal Trust comes to an end. With up to 1000 trips a year carrying in the region of 150,000 passengers, the Chichester Ship Canal Trust has much to thank her for.
The Trust takes delivery of a brand new tripboat, a 22 seater with disabled access, on 11th January to take the place of Egremont. Will the new boat be appreciated as much as Egremont has been over these last 23 years?
Egremont is now is looking for a new home. She does require a little tender care but will surely give any new owner as much good service as she has the Canal Trust.
We thank her for helping to put Chichester Canal firmly on the map and wish her a happy retirement.
