Fond memories of 1990

Do you remember the series “Rosie and Jim”, made popular as a TV series by John Cunliffe in the 90s? Well, if you do, we now have our very own Rosie and Jim, lovingly knitted and now gifted to the Canal by Janet Tomsett.

Janet, aged 84 from Denmead, knitted these rag dolls for her grandchildren Sam and Demi over 20 years ago. On Sunday, 18 August, Sam and Demi brought Janet to the Canal for a birthday trip with Rosie and Jim. Janet said “I’m delighted to revisit the Canal with these gifts, which I stumbled across while having a bit of tidy up. My last trip was on Egremont a few years ago, so it’s lovely to enjoy the Kingfisher trip boat on a sunny Sunday afternoon”. Sam added “We really enjoyed our trip and will definitely return for another ride. And of course, to say hi to Rosie and Jim!”

Our own Canal Tootle, aka Rosie and Jim’s skipper in the TV series, was thrilled to accept the rag dolls. Andrew Gibson, Canal director and skipper for the day said “I guess I’ve now got a new nickname! I was so pleased to meet Janet and her family and I must say that on this occasion Rosie and Jim were very well behaved. Thank you”.

Join us on a Kingfisher boat trip (4 times daily 7 days a week) and meet Rosie and Jim.
