Commemorating the work of an ex Chairman
On Tuesday, 2 April, a small group of long serving volunteers gathered at the Canal cafe to celebrate the life and work of Linda Wilkinson.
The current Canal Trust Chairman, Ian Milton, led the tribute with the following words.
“I arrived at the Canal in 2014 just before Linda ceased to be Trust Chairman and never really got to know her personally. But I do have recollections of others through which we can recognise the immense impact that she had on the Canal restoration.
“John Cooper tells me that he asked Linda to join him in the very early days of restoration in the late 1970s. We and our visitors owe them a great debt of gratitude in getting the Canal to where it is today.
“Whatever Linda did here, she believed was in the best interests of the Canal. She not only did the management and planning but got her hands dirty as well. All of this was recognised here and in IWA circles that were written at the time of her death in September 2017. We hope that Linda’s great contribution will be remembered for many years to come”.
